EPoS System - "not fit for purpose"

Nine months after installing a new Electronic Point of Sale (EPoS) system this Retailer stopped using it and decided to claim that it was "not fit for purpose". Their claim was based on a list of 31 issues.

My Report demonstrated that 24 of the points were not relevant because they had nothing to do with the on-going operation of the system. They dealt with historic events such as delays in the pre-implementation training. Of the remaining 7 there were 6 to which the System Supplier could offer a valid response. This left just one element of any substance.

Further investigation established two key points:

  • the Retailer did not know about the one remaining element of the claim at the time that they stopped using the computer system so it could not have been a reason for their decision
  • the Retailer's manuscript error log was inconsistent with the Error Log that I recovered from their computer indicating that it may not have been an accurate record of events.

The claim was not pursued.
